Areas themselves are rather large, but are quite easy to get around thanks to the speed at which you can move. In addition to this, Titans can also grab you out of the air if you are not careful with how you attack or even just chomp down on you with their mouths as you struggle to get free. Titans can be quite tricky as well, if you attack them without enough speed or attack the wrong body part you can easily be knocked to the ground where the Titans will quickly take the opportunity to trample on you, grab you, or just smash around them causing damage. It is one of the highlights of the game and truly makes you feel like an unstoppable force. It changes combat drastically while you smash through small cities while taking out Titans with powerful melee combat. Another bonus is having the ability to play as a Titan, Erin who has the ability to transform into a Titan is playable in this form. Each character gets their own set of skills, while some do share the odd skill here and there, for the most part the game does enough to set each character apart in terms of their gameplay to help make them feel different and unique. As characters level up they also acquire more skills, this can vary from being able to boost twice while in the air or being able to chain multiple attacks for additional damage. The game does a great job at rotating characters, which keeps the gameplay fresh and stops it from becoming too repetitive. While Levi is one of the more powerful and agile characters in the game capable of taking down the biggest Titans on his own, Armin is weaker and more of a tactician with the ability to command other characters to attack weak spots to take down Titans. Playing with someone such as Levi requires a very different approach than it would playing with Armin. Throughout the game, you will get a chance to play with various characters, each with their own unique traits and attacks. The gameplay is intuitive and extremely fun This can play a huge role later in the game and the difference between having to land one attack or multiple attacks for any damage to be done. Taking out specific body parts first will also reward you with materials which can be used to upgrade equipment and purchase and develop better equipment. Titans can only be killed by cutting the backs of their necks, while you can go straight for the necks of Titans there are some that will be immune to neck attacks until they are weakened. Taking out weak parts first is all part of the strategy, you will want to cut off legs and arms first to immobilize bigger Titans and remove their threat while going after smaller Titans for a quick kill. At times there may only be one Titan in an area, while other areas may have a handful. Combat is quick and very fast-paced, but also requires precision in order to take down Titans. It is really one of the game’s more impressive features. The controls feel a bit intimidating at first, but after a couple of minutes you realise just how amazing the controls are and in no time you are blasting through the areas. At times it feels like I am playing an incredibly responsive Spiderman game as I use my gear to maneuver around the world while boosting through buildings and trees. The gameplay is intuitive and extremely fun, I have not had this much fun moving around a game world in a very long time. Cut scenes add to the story elements and look great, but there are also times where speaking to NPC characters will reveal more about the story and the characters.

Depending on the difficulty, it could take anywhere from about 10-12 hours to complete. All the essential plot points and events seem to be covered in a rather lengthy campaign. Many characters from the anime are present and some even get a bit more screen time due to them being playable characters. The story mode will be nothing new for those familiar with the Anime or Manga of the series, it follows the same story and doesn’t deviate too much from things. In a way Attack on Titan has a look and feel of a Musou game, but is quite different from the gameplay side of things.Īttack on Titan feels like no other game I have played Those games where it is you against hundreds of enemies on screen that pose very little threat to you and are basically just there as cannon fodder for you to pull off insane attacks, watching them fly across your screen. Omega Force are mostly known for their Musou-style games. Attack on Titan feels like no other game I have played, it feels almost like a mixture of games that haven’t been mixed before due to this, it comes across as something fresh and extremely fun.
